Telling them the story about how I grew up without computers and cellphones (and even cable!) only makes me feel old. So I do what any grandparent would do and find them something to do.
Years ago, when my own kids tried pulling that on me, I started making up games for them to play, such as "Let's See How Many Dishes You Can Pick Up with One Hand." There was also "Clothes Bingo," which was like regular Bingo, using clothes on the floor of their room.
They soon got the hint, and it wasn't long before they stopped telling me they were bored. They busied themselves with making forts, playing Nintendo, or reading.
But that was before I became crafty. Not the sly kind of crafty; but the glue gun and popsicle stick kind.
Now when the grandkids get fidgety and fussy, all I have to do is bring out my tubs of supplies, look up a craft online, and let them get creative. Not only do they have a lot of fun, but they get to make something for Mom and Dad, who naturally ooh and aah over them.
It's fun for me, too, because one of my favorite things to do is spend time with my grandchildren, doing something we all like.
