The Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation was recently formed to "create, enhance, and sustain innovative parks and recreation opportunities for all community members."
The new organization made up of people "passionate about recreation and parks in Cedar Rapids, who work closely with the Cedar Rapids Parks Department and commission to make Cedar Rapids a better place to play.
The goal of the Cedar Rapids park Foundation is to provide a place where kids are welcome to climb, building their mind and body capacity, engaging in outdoor play, and staying active.
The park provides residents with a place to play, picnic, and socialize. Parks are especially important to those residents who live in nearby high density housing and don’t have yards or other green spaces to play in.
According to the foundation, "this new piece of playground equipment will liven up the current, dated playgrounds, and provide a new opportunity for kids enjoy being outside. By installing this piece in a high traffic, much loved parks, many people will experience it, leading to additional installations in other parks. No designated climbing structures exist in Cedar Rapids, and urban youth are missing out on this type of activity."
Their first project is to raise funds for a new rope climbing structure at Bever Park, located on Bever Avenue, just past Memorial Drive SE.
